Born in 1902, Jean Royère, the "modern of yesterday", shows his taste for decoration very young. He began at the age of 30 a brilliant career as a decorator. After having married and then abandoned the functionalism in vogue in the 30s, he presented in 1939 at the Salon des artistes décorateurs a boudoir that provocatively marks the return to the ornament. From 1931 to 1972, this indefatigable traveler made more than a thousand projects around the world, from the development of the workers' city of Aplemont in the north of France to the decoration of the Shah's palace in Iran, creating with lightness a style that evokes the desire for freedom of an era and will mark many contemporary creators. His furniture and objects, including the iconic Bear armchairs and sofas, are now a craze for collectors of art and design around the world.
